PCU RN Job in Council Bluffs, IA

CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs is seeking an RN for a 91-day travel assignment in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You will work three 12-hour night shifts per week from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM on a 22-bed stepdown unit in a fast-paced environment.

Role Responsibilities

• Care for patients with heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke
• Manage a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio and carry full patient assignment as charge nurse when assigned
• Titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroprusside
• Read and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Operate and troubleshoot CPAP equipment
• Handle frequent admissions and discharges daily
• Document using the EPIC charting system
• Float to ICU when appropriate experience is available

Scheduling and Requirements

• Every other weekend requirement
• Holiday requirements: one major and one minor holiday
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius and cannot be employed with CommonSpirit facilities

Certifications and Qualifications

• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• One 12-hour shift of department-specific orientation
• Pass/fail exam during orientation requiring 90% to pass
• Valid driver's license required at submission
• Artificial nails are prohibited; refusal to remove results in contract termination

Compensation

Weekly pay is $2,384.64. Assignment runs 91 days, with a start date of August 31, 2026.
