PACU RN Job in Alexandria, VA

Mount Vernon Hospital is seeking an RN for our Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) in Alexandria, VA. This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week on a Monday through Friday base schedule, with shift lengths and start times varying based on unit operational needs. You will typically work 9-hour or 12-hour shifts covering the hours of 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Caring for patients in PreOp, Phase 1, and Phase 2 PACU depending on patient needs
• Managing patient ratios of 2:1 in Phase 1 and 3:1 in Phase 2 across our 13-bay unit
• Rotating assignments between PreOp and PACU based on daily operational demands, with flexibility for variable start times including early PreOp starts
• Floating to PreOp, Endoscopy Theatre (ECT), and GI Endoscopy as needed
• Caring for inpatient and outpatient surgical patients across multiple specialties, including total joint arthroplasty, spine, orthopedic sports medicine, general surgery, vascular, plastics, urology, ENT, and endoscopy procedures
• Providing care to pediatric patients age 10 and older
• Participating in 2nd Call rotation: 3 weekend/holiday shifts and 3 weekday shifts per 6-week period (weekday call 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM; weekend/holiday call either 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM or 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM)

Requirements:

• Current RN license in Virginia or active multistate compact (NLC) license
• Minimum 2 years of PACU RN experience with strong perianesthesia background preferred
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA) certifications required
• Pass ECG exam on Day 2 of orientation
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Pediatric experience helpful but not required

OR attire is provided on campus. You will wear maroon OR scrubs in PACU, ECT, and Endoscopy; maroon OR attire or navy Inova scrubs when assigned to PreOp. This is a 68-week assignment beginning July 6, 2026, with weekly pay of $2,382.72.
