PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• 4x12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Up to 26 weeks available by request
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
• Patient ratio is typically 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Unit has 20 beds and functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
• 2 beds designated for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
• Floating within skillset required
• Vent experience required
• EPIC charting experience required
• 1 year of experience required; charge experience preferred
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Required clinical skills include cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care required
• Ventilator care for chronic trach patients required
• Medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration): Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine
• Respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Rapid Response and Code team activation required
• Isolation precautions and telemetry across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
• Equipment includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tool, PICC line, and MML
• Remote telemetry with tele sitting implemented to increase Patient Care Tech coverage
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, lift teams, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and pharmacy transportation
