PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• PCU/Orthopedic unit with a patient ratio of 1:5, with rare occasions where ratio may flex to 1:6
• 2 years of experience required with Level 1 trauma experience
• High acuity orthopedic patient care including post-op care of orthopedic trauma patients with overflow surgeries ranging from eye to gynecological procedures
• Large patient turnover on the unit daily with high volume admits
• Patient diagnoses include Total Joints, ORIF any fracture, Laminectomy, Hand surgery, bladder suspension, gynecological surgeries, and eye surgeries
• Patient age groups include adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Must be proficient in blood product administration and patient mobility
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments required as needed per unit
• 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule period (combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
• Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities including other PCU floors
• On-call required: 1-2 weekdays per week and 2 weekends per 13-week contract
• Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
• Block scheduling is not available
• Maximum of 7 days of requested time off per contract
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS
• Charting system: Epic (experience required)
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Required skills: Blood product administration, isolation precautions/PPE, ortho trauma, PCA management, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience, peripheral line care and management, peripheral nerve block catheters, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs, surgical drains, total joint replacement, wound care/wound vac
• Special equipment: traction, bulb syringe, braces, casts, crutches, doppler, walker, hemovac, PICC line, mid line, Alaris pump, PCA
• Interdisciplinary support available including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response teams, and social services
