PACU - Post Anesthesia Care

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PACU

Job Details:

• Monday through Friday schedule with call required 6-8 days per month (self-scheduled)
• Minimum of 1 weekend shift per contract required
• Patient ratio of 2:1
• 21-bed PACU unit with a daily census of 30 patients
• 2 years of PACU experience preferred
• Travel experience required
• Must have experience recovering patients from ortho, neuro, general, urology, dental (adults and pediatrics), GYN, and pediatric ENT procedures including tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, and bilateral myringotomy tubes
• Strong pediatric experience required including ENT, dental, and ortho; patients range from 8 months to 100+ years old
• Level II trauma experience preferred
• Critical care experience strongly preferred
• Must assist with coverage in Pre-Op Holding as needed (PACU and Pre-Op are connected; no floating to other departments)
• Experience monitoring patients with nerve blocks, chest tube insertions, central lines, intubation, and arterial lines required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIH Stroke Scale
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Key skills include arterial line management, dysrhythmia recognition and management, IV vasopressors, narcotics and opioid analgesics, reversal agents, conscious sedation, post-epidural management, malignant hyperthermia protocol, pain assessment and management, PCA pump management, and RASS scoring
• Surgical specialties include bariatrics, ENT, general, GYN, neuro, ophthalmology, ortho, vascular, urology, plastics, podiatry, and robotics
• Interdisciplinary support available including respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation
