About this role
You will work as an RN in the Progressive Care Unit at CHI St Alexius Health Bismarck Medical Center, a Trauma Level 2 acute care facility. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning August 24, 2026, with a weekly pay rate of $2,348.
Shift and Schedule
- 3x12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
- Rotating shifts occur no more than once weekly with blocked scheduling considered based on unit needs
- Every other weekend requirement
- Every other holiday requirement
- No on-call or standby requirement
Unit Overview
You will care for a 32-bed Med/Telemetry unit with PCU-level care overflow. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4–5 during the day, occasional 1:5–6 at night, and 1:3 for PCU-level care overflow. A charge nurse is present on both shifts. Nurse aide and patient care tech support are available with a goal ratio of 1:10.
Clinical Responsibilities
You will be first to float to all areas, including medical/surgical units and occasional ER holds or boarding. Your patient population includes adults and geriatrics with cardiac history, post-cardiac catheterization, EP studies, pacers, ETOH use, COVID BiPAP support, general surgical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, acute-on-chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis.
You will titrate critical drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitroglycerol, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine (no Levophed). You must independently read and interpret telemetry strips. Equipment you will use includes portable telemetry monitors, in-room monitors, BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo devices. You are responsible for troubleshooting RT equipment and will have a tech available at the nurses' station.
Requirements
- Active North Dakota nursing license
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- PCU experience required
- Ability to read cardiac strips independently required
- Telemetry and cardiac RN background required
- Experience with BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo equipment required
- BSN not required
- First-time travelers accepted
Orientation and Additional Details
Your orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of your first week), with independent work beginning that Sunday. The facility uses EPIC for charting. Any color scrubs are permitted.
