PCU Registered Nurse Job in Redding, CA

Mercy Medical Center Redding is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for our Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a 91-day travel assignment ideal for nurses ready to apply advanced clinical skills in a stepdown setting.

Position Details

• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM start)
• Every other weekend requirement; 4 weekend shifts per 4-week cycle (Friday/Saturday nights)
• Self-scheduling with shifts planned 2–3 weeks in advance initially, extending to 9 weeks ahead
• No on-call or standby duties
• Weekly pay: $2,050
• Start date: November 17, 2026

Unit Overview

The 14-bed PCU (7 rooms) operates with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio. You will care for stepdown patients transitioning from ICU, including those with traumatic brain injury (TBI), major surgical recovery, carotid endarterectomy (CEA), and sepsis management. First-float responsibilities to Telemetry and Med/Surg units apply.

Clinical Requirements

• Manage arterial and CVP pressure lines
• Titrate vasoactive medications: dopamine, dobutamine, Levophed, and Precedex
• Provide tracheostomy care and manage stable ventilated patients
• Monitor high-risk drips and apply telemetry protocols
• Understand and implement HCAHPS and core measures
• One unit orientation shift required
• EHR: Cerner

Qualifications

• Current RN license
• 2–3 years ICU stepdown or PCU experience
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Training in telemetry and high-risk medications
• Self-motivated, team-oriented approach
