Job Details:

• Assist surgeon in performing surgical procedures and function as the surgeon's chief assistant in the operating room
• Scrub into cases and assist primary scrub with setup and opening of sterile supplies
• Ensure instruments and supplies are available for scheduled cases
• Set up cases ensuring all instruments are thoroughly sterilized
• Maintain the sterile field during case setup and throughout the duration of each case
• Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or variances from standard operating procedures
• Assist circulating RN with patient positioning, sterile draping, and circulating duties as needed
• Pass instruments and assist physician as needed during procedures
• May be asked to clamp, cauterize, tie, and apply ligating clamps, hemostatic clips, and place hemostatic agents on vessels and tissue
• May be asked to apply running or interrupted sutures on wound layers including muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin
• First assist in cardiothoracic procedures and other surgical procedures, including saphenous vein harvesting (open and endoscopic)
• CVOR experience is required for this position
• Work with circulating nurse and orderlies to perform post-case cleaning duties
• Responsible for point-of-use cleaning of instruments and breaking down instruments for further cleaning in Central Sterile Processing
• Follow all standards for instrument transport and return to Central Sterile
• Notify appropriate leader of any damaged instruments at the end of a case
• Ensure surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure
