RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• Provide quality, professional, general nursing care to Med/Surg and EICU patients
• Assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate patient care for a group of patients
• Adapt to changes in daily assignments, patient status changes, and unit needs
• Utilize the nursing process throughout the patient's hospitalization to ensure individualized care
• Apply general knowledge of disease processes, anticipated treatments, labs, vital signs, and potential complications related to diagnosis
• Initiate, develop, and document patient care plans based on assessment and medical diagnosis
• Provide care independently with minimal supervision within unit requirements, physician orders, and policies
• Respond to life-threatening situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
• Perform or assist with procedures per approved departmental policy
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions using computerized documentation systems and electronic medical record (EMR)
• Acknowledge and follow through on physician orders via EMR in a timely manner
• Demonstrate proficiency in medication administration including IV therapy
• Initiate patient and family education plans and discharge needs based on individualized patient needs
• Delegate to and collaborate with other health team members in planning and providing care
• Safely care for multiple patients while maintaining a safe environment
• Demonstrate understanding and utilization of Universal Precautions, asepsis, and infection control procedures
• Ensure proper handling of specimens
• Two-year degree in nursing required; BSN preferred
• Must hold and maintain Wisconsin Registered Nursing license
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• PALS encouraged
• Intermediate proficiency with computers required
• Excellent clinical, problem-solving, communication, and de-escalation skills required
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with repetitive movements including pulling, pushing, reaching, and stooping
