About this role

IU Health West Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Avon, Indiana. This is an 8-week travel assignment beginning August 26, 2026.

Assignment Details

  • Shift: Four 12-hour nights per week with 48 guaranteed hours
  • Weekly pay: $2,511
  • Weekend coverage required; must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Float to Med-Surg with patient ratios up to 6:1; PCU ratios are 4:1
  • Care for adult and geriatric populations across a 32-bed unit with daily census of 28

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1.5 years PCU experience required
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • First-time travelers accepted; local Indiana residents are not eligible
  • Preferred experience with Cerner charting system

Required Clinical Skills

  • Respiratory support: BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, chest tube management
  • Cardiac management: Telemetry monitoring, 12-lead EKG, dysrhythmia interpretation, cardiac drip titration (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Dopamine, Dobutamine)
  • Vascular: Central line care, blood product administration, ABG interpretation
  • GI/GU: Feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation, wound care and wound vac
  • Medications: IV insulin protocols, heparin protocols, insulin drip titration
  • Other: CVA care, isolation precautions and PPE, special cardioversion support

Patient Populations

You will care for patients with cardiac conditions (NSTEMI, angina, pacemaker, cardiac cath, CHF, HTN), respiratory diagnoses (COPD, PE, pneumonia, asthma, emphysema), neurological events (status epilepticus, CVA/TIA), GI/GU disorders (GIB, pancreatitis, bowel obstruction, dialysis), endocrine emergencies (DKA, diabetes), mental health needs (alcohol withdrawal), geriatric conditions, and sickle cell anemia.

Interdisciplinary Support

Physical therapy, respiratory services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary support are available. Uniform requirement: black pants and red top.
