OR Nurse Job in Gardner, MA

Heywood Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Operating Room in Gardner, MA. This is a 91-day travel assignment with 24-hour rotating shifts, offering $2,482 weekly pay. Your start date is April 23, 2026.

Your Role

You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care plans in the OR setting. You will provide patient care based on established standards, protocols, and policies while maintaining thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all patient data and interventions.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy according to physician orders
• Perform pre-admission testing and nursing assessments on Surgical Day Care patients
• Coordinate ancillary testing for day surgery patients
• Perform blood draws and EKGs as needed
• Review pre-operative orders and consult with surgeons and anesthesiologists
• Review test results and communicate abnormalities to appropriate physicians prior to surgery
• Verify chart completeness including consent forms, H&P, and lab results
• Assess patient pain levels using numerical pain scale and reassess effectiveness of pain control
• Provide emotional support to patients undergoing surgery
• Initiate and document post-operative phone calls to Surgical Day Care patients
• Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by other team members
• Perform patient and family teaching based on identified learning needs

Requirements

• Current Massachusetts RN license
• Current ACLS and PALS certifications required; IV certification preferred
• Minimum one year acute care nursing experience
• Prior Surgical Day Care, PAT, Endoscopy, or OR experience preferred
• Proficiency in peripheral IV insertion and nursing assessment
