Job Details:

• Work on the K8 General Surgery unit located on the 8th floor of K-Tower
• Patient ratios are 1:6 on day shift and 1:7 on night shift
• Unit has 44 beds with a structured staffing grid including charge nurses, RNs, CNAs, and unit secretaries
• Must have telemetry competency - candidates without this skill will not be considered
• Must be able to manage 6-7 patients depending on the shift
• Urology and bowel experience required as these are the two largest patient populations
• Perform and manage procedures including TPN, PCA, wound vacs, tube feeds, PEG tubes, dobhoffs, NG tubes, colostomies, urostomies, and various drains (biliary, JP, nephrostomy, urinary catheters, CBI)
• Administer heparin drips and IV antibiotics
• Support surgical patients including cholecystectomies, appendectomies, podiatry, bowel resections, plastics, urology surgeries, nephrectomies, hysterectomies, mastectomies, oral/maxillary, thyroidectomies, and hernia repairs
• Operate equipment including telemetry monitors, PCA pumps, wound vacs, Baxter IV pumps, and urinary catheters
• Document using Cerner EMR
• Float to other med-surg areas as needed
• 6 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
• Required certifications: BLS and telemetry competency
• Dress code: Navy blue pants, navy blue or white scrub top and jacket (if needed), white undershirt (if needed) - no sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies, coats, or jackets permitted
• Ideal candidate is positive, energetic, fast-paced, and a strong communicator with charge nurses, unit secretaries, providers, and CNA team
