Med Surg RN Job in Des Moines, IA

UnityPoint – Iowa Methodist Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for a temporary assignment on a 22-bed Medical Surgical unit in Des Moines, IA. You'll work 3x12 hour night shifts with a 5:1 patient-to-nurse ratio, caring for general medical-surgical patients including those on Heparin drips.

Assignment Details

• Duration: 91 days, starting November 9, 2026
• Weekly pay: $2,374
• No on-call responsibilities
• Weekend schedule: typically every other weekend, flexible based on department needs
• Required to work 1–2 of 3 upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed
• Travel between campuses, including Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Iowa Lutheran
• Navy blue scrubs required

Requirements

• Active Iowa nursing license or compact/multistate license
• At least 24 months of Med Surg, Medical Surgical, Tele, or Telemetry experience
• Previous travel healthcare experience within the past 18 months
• EPIC electronic medical records system experience
• BLS certification (AHA)
• Medical-surgical skills checklist completion

Preferred Qualifications

• De-escalation certificate (MAB, MOAB, CPI, or SAMA); can be obtained during onboarding
• Trauma Level I experience
• Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months
