PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• Work 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts per week
• Guaranteed hours: 36 hours per workweek for 3x12 shifts; 48 hours per workweek for 4x12 shifts; 40 hours per workweek for 8 and 10 hour shifts
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call required
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Patient ratios range from 1:5-6 depending on acuity and staffing needs
• This is an acuity adaptable unit with patients ranging from MedSurg level of care to PCU/stepdown/ICU level of care
• This is a boarding unit where patients come from the ED and are boarded until discharge or transfer to an inpatient unit; patients are stable and moved if they become unstable
• Unit is a high-paced ED hold unit that could see as many as 15 admissions per day due to constant turnover in admissions and transfers
• Float position - may be floated to an inpatient PCU unit; PCU experience required
• Team nursing takes place on this unit with RN/LPN at times; RN must be comfortable working with LPN in team nursing and delegation
• Must be comfortable managing fluctuating ratios in a high-paced environment
• Patients include adults and geriatrics
• Travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Cerner charting system experience required
• Required skills include: blood product administration, central line care/management, CVA management, heparin protocols, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drip management and titration, telemetry monitoring, PICC line management, PCA, peripheral line care, use of rapid response/code teams, and isolation precautions/PPE
