ICU - Intensive Care Unit

RN - ICU

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts starting at 6:45 AM with bedside report
• Every other weekend requirement
• First to float designation
• Unit: ICCU - MSCC (MedSurg Concentrated Care) with 10 beds and swing bed capacity
• Patient ratios: 1:2 ICU, 1:3 Stepdown and swing beds
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS; PALS preferred
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips (telemetry monitoring required)
• Ventilator experience required
• Charting system: Cerner EMR
• Scrub color: Navy - undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy
• Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, sepsis, DKA, GI bleed, and psych holds
• Travelers will not be assigned pediatric patients
• May have PACU patients after hours
• Charge nurse available and generally does not take patients but provides break relief
• Nurse aides available based on census and staffing
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7
• Self-scheduling utilized with schedules released 4 weeks in advance; schedules finalized by manager
• Overtime and extra shifts available; trades with other staff permitted
• Block scheduling is generally not available
• 1-2 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
• Holidays rotate in with core staff; expected to work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's)
• 2 supervisory references required at submittal (charge nurse accepted); 1 within 12 months and 1 within 3 years
• Dysrhythmia exam (Basic) through Relias must be completed prior to acceptance
