PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg Oncology Stepdown

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• Every other weekend required
• Self-scheduling available
• Unit is a mixed PCU, Oncology, and Med/Surg level of care on a 27-bed unit
• Day shift ratio: 1 RN to 4 PCU patients or 1 RN to 5 Med/Surg patients
• Night shift ratio: 1 RN to 5-6 patients
• Adult patient population with common diagnoses including oncology and trauma
• Common drips and medications include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix
• Required to titrate insulin and cardizem drips occasionally
• Must be competent with ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), and ICP monitoring - training available for these competencies
• Charting system: EPIC (EPIC experience within 6 months preferred)
• IV pumps: Alaris
• Specialty equipment: Lyko lifts available in even rooms with additional lift equipment on unit
• Additional unit support staff includes nursing assistants, PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, and dietician
• Float to same level of care units (Med/Surg and PCU)
• 2 days of orientation provided
• Pass/fail open book exam during orientation - must score 90% or higher to pass
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required with oncology and PCU experience preferred
• Chemotherapy certification preferred but not required
• Charge nurse experience required with a minimum of 1 year
• First-time travelers are welcome
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), ONS/ONCC
• Scrub color: Navy blue
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Driver's license required at submittal to verify radius compliance
• Up to 7 days of requested time off allowed upfront per 13-week contract - additional RTO will not be approved
