PCU - Progressive Care Unit

RN - PCU Stepdown

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM on a days/nights rotation with every other weekend requirement
• Combined PCU unit caring for both adult and pediatric patients with 27 beds
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3-5
• Must have both pediatric and adult experience
• Must reside outside of a 50-mile radius
• Weekend requirement is generally every 3rd weekend but may be more based on need - flexibility is expected
• Holiday requirement is every 3rd holiday with expectation to work one winter holiday
• No on-call or standby requirement unless voluntarily requested
• Block scheduling available with accommodation for travelers as much as possible
• Occasional floating to MedSurg with a full assignment
• Common diagnoses include CHF, respiratory failure, AFib, DKA, GI bleeds, dementia, AKI, suicidal patients, PEs, pneumonia, and influenza
• Required to titrate drips including Cardizem, insulin, heparin, Lasix, electrolytes, dobutamine, and dopamine
• Experience required with chest tubes, identifying arrhythmias, cardioversions, TEEs, post heart cath patients, defibrillator, and pain management
• Telemonitor techs on unit; RNs are required to read their own strips
• Nurse aides shared with ICU; respiratory therapy equipment including CPAP and BiPAP managed by RT
• Charge nurse takes a patient assignment
• Charting system: EPIC
• Scrub dress code: Any solid color scrub with no design or print; natural hair color required
• Two days of nursing department orientation and one shift on the floor
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS
• BSN not required
