PCU - Progressive Care Unit

RN - PCU Stepdown

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (Days and Nights)
• Combination PCU unit caring for both adult and pediatric patients
• Unit has 27 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3-5
• Every 3rd weekend required with flexibility expected based on unit needs
• Every 3rd holiday required, including one winter holiday
• No call or standby requirement unless voluntarily requested
• Occasional floating to MedSurg with a full patient assignment
• Must have both pediatric and adult nursing experience
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius
• Common diagnoses include CHF, respiratory failure, AFib, DKA, GI bleeds, dementia, AKI, suicidal ideation, PEs, pneumonia, and influenza
• Required to titrate drips including Cardizem, insulin, heparin, Lasix, electrolytes, dobutamine, and dopamine
• Experience required with chest tubes, arrhythmia identification, cardioversions, TEEs, post heart cath patients, defibrillators, and pain management
• Tele techs are on the unit; RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips
• RT manages CPAP and BiPAP equipment on the unit
• Charge nurse takes a patient assignment
• Nurse aids are shared with the ICU
• Block scheduling is accommodated as much as possible; travelers fill in gaps of the first schedule
• Charting system: EPIC
• Dress code: Any solid color scrubs, no designs or prints; natural hair color required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS
