About this role

You will work as an RN on the Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) in the E Heart Tower at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. This is a 91-day travel assignment with a start date of September 3, 2026. You will work three 12-hour night shifts per week (6:45 PM–7:15 AM), earning $2,094 weekly.

Clinical Role

You will care for cardiac surgery stepdown patients on a 40-bed unit with a 1:5 patient ratio. Your patient population includes post-operative cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients, including those recovering from CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR, lobectomy, thoracotomy, esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies. You will also receive overflow medical cardiology patients with conditions such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block.

Responsibilities

Your duties include:

  • Epidural and chest tube management
  • Tube feeding administration
  • IV glucommander and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
  • Use of Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various lifts
  • Charting in Cerner EMR

Staffing and Flexibility

Night shift staffing includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 0.33 HUC. You may float to stepdown units (1:5 ratios), medical/surgical units (1:6–7 ratios), or ER inpatient holding areas (1:6). You are required to work a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period and must be flexible for holiday coverage. There are no on-call responsibilities.

Requirements

You must have stepdown and telemetry experience. Prior experience with CV surgery and vascular surgery populations (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the last year is preferred. CVICU experience is also preferred. Required certifications are ACLS and BLS. Dress code is all navy, white tops/navy bottoms, or all white scrubs.
