ICU Registered Nurse Job in Chesapeake, VA

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for their ICU. This is a 147-day travel assignment beginning August 24, 2026, with 3x12-hour day shifts. You will earn $2,073.60 weekly.

Role Overview

You will provide direct patient care in a critical care environment with a typical patient ratio of 1:2–3. Your patients will include those with neurosurgical conditions, post-stroke status, respiratory failure, renal failure, post-surgical recovery, trauma, sepsis, MODS, heart failure, and post-cardiac catheterization. You must demonstrate strong neuro critical care experience, including post-neurosurgical care, EVD management, and stroke protocols.

Schedule and Expectations

You will work 3x12-hour day shifts, with every-other-weekend rotation, floating assignments, and holiday coverage required. Longer assignments through January 9, 2027, are available. You must work two of the three winter holidays. Overtime is billed after 48 hours for extended contracts.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical ventilation and titrate IV drips
• Monitor telemetry and recognize dysrhythmias
• Administer and monitor conscious sedation
• Respond to emergencies and provide critical care management
• Float to Step-Down Unit, Emergency Department, or Medical-Surgical units as needed to care for ICU patients

Required Qualifications

• Active Virginia or Compact RN license at time of submission
• Minimum 3 years critical care experience preferred; strong candidates with less experience may be considered
• BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Proficiency in Epic—no exceptions
• EKG testing required; you must achieve 80% or higher on one attempt with no remediation available
• Previous travel experience preferred
• Clean license and background history required

Eligibility

You must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible. Candidates with any license or background hits will not be considered.
