Med Surg RN Job in Council Bluffs, IA

CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs is seeking a registered nurse for its Medical-Surgical unit with an orthopedic focus. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning September 28, 2026, offering competitive pay of $2,314 weekly.

Schedule & Staffing

• Work three 12-hour night shifts per week, 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Every third weekend requirement (Friday and Saturday considered weekend for nights)
• Self-scheduling available
• Patient ratio of 1:5 with charge nurse handling assignments
• Nurse aides available at 1:10 ratio; monitor techs on staff

Unit Details

The unit operates 28 beds with 22 overflow capacity. You will provide care for patients recovering from total joint replacements and orthopedic procedures, as well as those with COPD, diabetes, wounds, dementia, oncology conditions, fractures, sepsis, pneumonia, and other medical diagnoses. Floating to PCU and behavioral health unit is required.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Administer IV antibiotics, heparin, antithrombotics, and narcotics (no drip titration required)
• Perform hourly rounding and bedside shift reports
• Chart in EPIC system
• Support diverse patient populations with flexibility and clinical judgment

Requirements & Onboarding

• Current RN license and BLS certification
• Valid driver's license for distance verification
• Must live outside 50-mile radius
• Cannot be employed with CommonSpirit facilities
• Pass open-book orientation exam with 90% score to continue
• Complete first week classroom orientation plus one 12-hour shift on unit
• Navy blue scrubs required; artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas
