PCU Registered Nurse Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a 13-week assignment in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced intermediate care setting with high patient turnover and diverse acuity levels.

Assignment Details

• 13-week contract with start date October 5, 2026
• 3x12 night shifts: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week
• Weekly pay: $2,583
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Eligible for up to 36 hours of low census unbillable time, available in hourly increments

Clinical Environment

• 8-bed observation unit with 2 RNs per shift
• 1:4 patient ratio
• Average patient stay up to 48 hours with high-volume admissions and discharges
• Float to all inpatient units as needed

Clinical Responsibilities

• Care for patients with anemia, cellulitis, COPD, CHF, dehydration, pre-op, urology, and GI conditions
• Manage drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Insulin, and Heparin
• Read and interpret EKG strips (EKG exam required during compliance)

Requirements

• Current Wisconsin RN License
• BLS and ACLS certification (ARC or AHA)
• Associate Degree or Certificate in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• At least 1 prior travel assignment
• Epic charting experience
• Background in observation units or step-down Med-Surg/Telemetry units preferred

Any scrub color is permitted. This assignment is ideal for nurses with intermediate care experience who are comfortable with rapid patient flow and want to expand their clinical skills in a supportive team environment.
