PCU - Progressive Care Unit

RN - PCU

Job Details:

• Work in a 24-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) located on floor 3S in the Heart Building/Pavilion I
• Patient ratio of 1:3
• Day shift consists of 1 charge nurse, 8 RNs, and a unit secretary covering 24 patients
• Night shift consists of 1 charge nurse and 8 RNs covering 24 patients
• 4 weekend shifts required in a 4-week schedule
• No phlebotomy responsibilities
• Required dress code: Royal Blue scrubs
• Equipment used includes Baxter IV pumps, Hillrom, iMobile with Apple devices, and telemetry
• EMR system: Meditech
• Must have knowledge of cardiac drips including Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Cardene, and Cardizem
• Must demonstrate accountability for actions
• Preferred: strong communication skills with patients and interdisciplinary team
• Preferred: minimum 6 months of PCU experience
• Typical procedures include caring for post-CABG, AVR/MVR, aortic root repair, LVAD, and post-VATS patients with chest tubes
• Post vascular surgeries and pre/post cath lab and EP procedures (pacemaker/AICD, heart caths, PCIs, TAVR)
• Bedside procedures include paracentesis, thoracentesis, and PICC insertion
• May float to Med-Surg/Tele and Ortho units
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS
