RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• 12-hour night shifts; 36 or 48 hours accepted per week
• Contract length: 13-26 weeks
• Patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Weekend requirement: 12-16 shifts per contract
• Floating required within and near facility
• Pre-approved time off: up to 7 days maximum (no holidays); must work 2 of 3 major holidays; no RTO during first week
• Unit orientation: 24 hours; hospital orientation during week one with required attendance for classes each day
• Scheduling based on unit needs
• Scrubs: Navy/White
• Minimum 2 years of experience required; first-time travelers accepted
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Required certification: BLS
• Required skills include: Med/Surg, telemetry/remote monitoring, use of rapid response team, interpretation of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, starting IVs, heparin, PCA, chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
• Preferred skills include: MS/Tele, telemetry on-unit monitoring, accessing ports, insulin management, CVA, surgical drains, interpretation of ABGs, tracheostomy management, and EPIC
• Unit systems: Pyxis, Epic, SBAR
• Patient diagnoses include: dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and failure to thrive
• Patient population: adults and geriatrics
• Unit capacity: 43 beds with a daily census of 39
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation
• Contract staff will be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty, or disaster situations
