RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• This is a Neuro unit with a focus on general medicine and neurological patient diagnoses
• Night shift position
• 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
• Contract length of 13-26 weeks accepted
• Patient ratio of 1:6 on all shifts including days, nights, and weekends
• 24-hour unit orientation provided
• Weekend requirement of 5-6 weekend shifts per contract (approximately every other weekend)
• Float requirement applies - travelers float first
• Scheduling is manager-assigned (block scheduling)
• Unit serves adult and geriatric patient populations
• 24-bed unit with a daily census of 24
• Scrubs not provided - Navy Blue required
• Documentation and systems used: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
• Interdisciplinary support includes IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, and Unit Secretary
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• First-time travelers accepted
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Required skills include: CVA management, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions/PPE, Med/Surg, telemetry, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, peripheral line care/management, and starting and maintaining IVs
• Preferred experience: Neuro experience, NIH experience, and charge nurse experience or willingness to learn the charge nurse role
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
• Teamwork approach to patient care and focus on patient safety required
• Call off policy is strictly enforced
