Job Details:

• Serve as a primary scrub person or assistant for operative procedures
• Scrub into cases and ensure all instruments and supplies are available for scheduled procedures
• Set up cases ensuring all instruments are thoroughly sterilized prior to procedures
• Maintain sterile field during case setup and throughout surgical procedures
• Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or variances from standard operating procedures
• Pass instruments and assist physician as needed during surgical cases
• Assist physician with cutting suture material when requested
• Apply electrocautery to clamps on bleeders under direct supervision of the surgeon when requested
• Perform instrument, sponge, and sharps counts during procedures
• Assist with draping and patient positioning in collaboration with the circulating RN
• Perform post-case cleaning duties in collaboration with circulating nurse and orderlies
• Responsible for gross decontamination of instruments including breaking down instruments for further cleaning in Central Sterile Processing
• Follow all standards for instrument transport and return to Central Sterile
• Notify appropriate leader of any damaged instruments at the end of each case
• Ensure surgical suite is disinfected and fully stocked and ready for the next procedure
• Complete all mandatory education requirements and maintain compliance with all HR requirements
• Follow all safe practices in the OR and complete age-specific annual competency assessments
