Respiratory Therapist Job in Altoona, PA

ADEX Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a 91-day travel assignment at West Central - UPMC Altoona in Altoona, PA. You will work a rotating schedule of three 12-hour shifts per week, totaling approximately 36 hours weekly, with a weekly pay of $2,385. The assignment begins August 9, 2026.

About the Role

You will provide respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities across all patient populations and service areas. Your responsibilities include:

• Reading prescriptions, measuring arterial blood gases, and reviewing patient information to assess conditions and determine treatment requirements
• Evaluating the appropriateness of medical orders and interpreting clinical data to optimize patient outcomes
• Setting up and operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators
• Monitoring patients' physiological responses to therapy, including vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes
• Performing bronchopulmonary drainage and assisting patients with breathing exercises
• Performing pulmonary function tests for physician diagnosis
• Assisting in transporting mechanically ventilated patients and responding to all code situations
• Maintaining accurate patient charts with pertinent identification and therapy information

Requirements

You must hold a minimum of 2 years of respiratory therapy experience and be a graduate of a CoARC-approved Respiratory program. Required certifications and licenses include Basic Life Support (BLS), Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), State License, PA Act 31, PA Act 33, PA Act 34, and PA Act 73. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification may be required depending on facility assignment.
