ICU Registered Nurse Job in Abilene, TX

Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, TX is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Intensive Care Unit. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning November 2, 2026, with a weekly pay of $2,107.

Role Overview

You will work in a stepdown ICU caring for low-acuity ICU patients and high-acuity telemetry patients. Your responsibilities include managing all ICU-level patients except those requiring mechanical ventilation. The unit provides in-room continuous cardiac and vital sign monitoring, and you will manage complex cardiac IV infusions including Levophed, Cardene, Neosynephrine, and Insulin drips requiring frequent titration and continuous monitoring.

Patient Care Responsibilities

• Care for adult and geriatric patient populations with a 3:1 patient ratio
• Manage patients post-TNK administration with frequent neurological assessments
• Care for patients with high oxygen requirements, pericardial drains, temporary pacemakers, femstop management, STEMI post-cath, EKOS treatment for DVT, and snakebite post-antivenom administration
• Independently consult with the medical management team regarding changes in patient condition
• Perform arterial line management, BiPAP/CPAP management, central line care, tracheostomy care, and wound care
• Interpret ABGs and dysrhythmias, and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips

Schedule and Support

You will work three 12-hour day shifts per week with self-scheduling. On-call duty is required once every 6 weeks, and you will work 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period. The unit provides RN-driven patient care with support from patient care technicians and interdisciplinary teams including IV, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, and Pharmacy.

Requirements

• Current RN license
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Travel experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Altera charting experience preferred, not required
