PCU Registered Nurse Job in Roanoke, VA

You will work as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning July 13, 2026.

Schedule and Compensation

• Three 12-hour night shifts per week (6:45 PM to 7:15 AM); four 12-hour shifts available upon request
• Every-other-weekend requirement or six weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
• Minimum one holiday per 13-week contract
• Weekly pay: $2,142
• Self-scheduling through Kronos system

Role Requirements

• Active Virginia state or compact RN license required
• Minimum one year of nursing experience; travel experience preferred
• Neuro PCU experience required
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• EPIC charting experience required

Patient Population and Unit Details

You will care for adults and geriatric patients with stroke, neurology, and general medicine presentations. The 25-bed unit maintains a daily census of 25. Your typical patient ratio is 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4.

Clinical Skills and Responsibilities

Your daily work includes cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, emergency response, IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration. You will manage central and peripheral lines, administer medications including cardiac drips (non-titration), and provide respiratory support via nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management. IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine.

Special procedures may include chest tube management, trach care, PICC line management, multi-lumen line care, and oxygen modes such as CPAP and BiPAP. Remote telemetry monitoring occurs on-unit with tele sitting implemented for additional patient care tech coverage.

• Floating within your skillset to another PCU or medical-surgical unit may be required
• Facility may call off one shift per two-week period
• All RTO (requested time off) must be submitted with your initial submission
• Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response teams, social services, and unit secretaries
