RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend requirement (4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule)
• Holiday shifts worked into permanent staff rotation
• First to float status required
• Unit consists of 45 beds total combining adult med/surg and pediatric med/surg telemetry
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
• Must have telemetry experience
• 2-3 years of experience in specialty required
• Pediatric experience preferred; travelers without pediatric experience will not be assigned pediatric patients
• Common diagnoses include COPD, post-op, GI bleeds, OBGYN surgeries, ortho, sepsis, altered mental status, chest pain rule-out, stroke, cellulitis, and ETOH withdrawal
• Required to titrate Heparin drips; may also work with Protonix drips
• CPAP, BiPap, and high-flow respiratory equipment used on unit
• Charting system is Cerner
• Charge nurse serves as team lead and does not take patient assignments
• Nurse aides available on unit for 8 or 10-hour shifts; no tech coverage from 1:00 AM to 7:00 AM
• Hospitalist available on site; fast-paced unit with an average patient length of stay of 3 days
• Unit orientation is 2-3 days, including a scavenger hunt component
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Self-scheduling available to some degree with schedules made 30-45 days in advance
• Standby or on-call requirement applies
• Floating to telemetry or OB available for those with applicable experience but not required
• BSN not required
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS; PALS preferred
