ED RN Job in San Antonio, TX

Methodist Hospital in San Antonio is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week contract position in their 86-bed Adult Emergency Department. You'll work three 12-hour night shifts per week, with a weekly pay of $1,708.20, starting September 22, 2026.

Role Overview

You'll provide direct patient care in a fast-paced emergency setting with acuity-based ratios typically at 4:1. The ED operates with 6–7 RNs during night shifts and up to 18–20 RNs during peak hours. You'll be expected to pick up four weekend shifts per month and demonstrate strong communication skills and reliability under pressure.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Manage airway and respiratory procedures including oxygen administration, suctioning, bag-valve-mask ventilation, RSI assistance, endotracheal tube management, ventilator monitoring, and CPAP/BiPAP setup
• Perform vascular access including peripheral and ultrasound-guided IV insertion, central line assistance, intraosseous insertion, arterial line monitoring, and PICC line management
• Conduct trauma assessments, cervical collar application, spinal immobilization, hemorrhage control, and massive transfusion protocol coordination
• Manage wound care, laceration repair assistance, splint application, and fracture stabilization
• Handle cardiac procedures including 12-lead ECG acquisition, continuous monitoring, defibrillation, synchronized cardioversion, transcutaneous pacing, ACLS resuscitation, and STEMI protocol activation
• Administer IV push medications, continuous infusions, blood products, thrombolytics, vasopressors, and procedural sedation medications
• Perform stroke assessments using NIHSS, manage neuro emergencies, and activate stroke/STEMI alerts
• Insert nasogastric tubes and Foley catheters; provide gastric decompression
• Support pediatric emergency procedures and neonatal stabilization as needed

Requirements

You must hold current ACLS, PALS, BLS, TNCC, ENPC, NIH, and CPI certifications. Experience with Meditech EMR is required. Trauma center experience is preferred. You'll wear navy blue scrubs and work with standard ER equipment in a Level II Trauma Center environment.
