About this role
Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Rapid Response is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Telemetry position on the Cardiac and Stroke Unit. This 91-week contract runs 3x12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM to 7:15 AM), offering 36 hours per week at $2,123 weekly pay.
Unit Overview
You will care for cardiac and stroke patients in a high-volume unit managing 78 to 90 patient turnovers per week. Patient ratios are 1:5–6, with the flexibility to take up to 6 patients during surge. The unit treats unstable angina, CHF, dysrhythmias, CVA, TIA, pacemaker implantations, ICD placements, and cardiac catheterization cases.
Schedule & Expectations
Every other weekend is required, plus 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays in a 6-week period. On-call frequency depends on patient census. Float requirements apply, and block scheduling is not available. Self-scheduling operates per unit guidelines with leadership oversight. You must be available every day during week one for 36-hour hospital orientation.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 2 years of nursing experience is required, including experience with similar ratios and acuity. First-time travelers are accepted. Essential competencies include IV starts, telemetry monitoring, pre- and post-procedure cardiac care, cardiac drips, PCI support, and Cardizem titration. You must pass EKG testing prior to start date.
Advanced skills valued include arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, heparin protocols, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV insulin protocols, vasoactive drip titration, pacemaker management (temporary and permanent), post–cardiac angiogram care, post-MI care, pre- and post-cardiac catheterization care, pre- and post-cardiac surgery support, TR band application, and rapid response/code team participation.
Certifications & Technology
Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications are required. Epic (Dimensions) charting experience is preferred. The unit uses Pyxis medication dispensing, Dimensions (EPIC) for documentation, and SBAR communication protocols.
Environment & Appearance
This is a fast-paced environment requiring comfort with multiple simultaneous drips (Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone). Special equipment includes telemetry, pulse oximetry, high-flow oxygen for stable patients, non-rebreather masks for palliative care only, and BiPAP for chronic use. Dress code requires navy blue or white scrubs; Novant t-shirts are permitted. Jackets must match uniform material and color (no fleece); no crocs with holes.
