ED - Emergency Room

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts in an acute care emergency department setting
• Every other weekend requirement with every other holiday requirement
• 6-9 weekend shifts required in a 6-week schedule
• Schedule is set by leadership based on unit needs
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 based on acuity
• Average of 30 patients treated per day in the ER
• ER holds are intermixed within the department; no separate holding area
• No separate psych/seclusion rooms
• Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, diabetes, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, and hypertension
• Administer standard ER medications and drips
• Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips as no monitor technicians are on staff
• Will be trained to perform Point of Care lab testing
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7 for breathing treatments and ABGs
• Charge nurse takes a patient assignment
• Techs available to support unit secretary work, assist nurses on the floor, and assist in triage
• Float requirement within Zone 4 region covering a 60-mile radius from city center
• Must be in state for the week of orientation even if first day modules are remote
• Charting system: EPIC
• BSN not required
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS, PALS, TNCC
