PCU RN Job in Asheville, NC

You will work as an RN on a 40-bed Cardiovascular Progressive Care unit at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. This role offers the chance to care for complex post-operative and cardiac patients in a structured, team-oriented environment.

Patient Population & Clinical Focus

• Primary patients include those recovering from CV and vascular surgery: open heart procedures (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies
• Also receive overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block
• Patient ratio of 1:5 per RN

Clinical Responsibilities

• Epidural and chest tube management
• Tube feedings and IV glucommander monitoring
• Cardiac drip management including phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, and ketamine
• Use of Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various patient lifts
• Documentation in Cerner EMR

Staffing & Float Requirements

• Night shift team includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 0.33 HUC
• Float coverage as needed to stepdown units (1:5 ratios), medical/surgical units (1:6–7 ratios), or ER inpatient holding area (1:6)

Position Details

• Schedule: 3x12 nights, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
• Duration: 91 days starting August 17, 2026
• Weekly pay: $2,125
• Minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period; flexible holiday coverage required
• No on-call

Required & Preferred Experience

• Required: Stepdown and telemetry experience; ACLS and BLS certification
• Preferred: CV surgery and vascular surgery population experience (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the last year; CVICU experience
