ICU Registered Nurse Job in Roanoke, VA

You will work as an RN in a whole-house float position across ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg units at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. This is a 91-day travel assignment with 3x12 night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM.

Staffing and Scheduling

• Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours; you may float 2–3 times per shift
• Night shift floats may occur at 11:00 PM
• You will work every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• One holiday per 13-week contract is required

Patient Ratios and Unit Details

• ICU average ratio 2:1; PCU average ratio 5:1; Med-Surg average ratio 6:1 (may flex to 7:1)
• You must be comfortable with ratios of at least 1:5
• One Med-Surg unit (Inpatient Rehab) is located at a community hospital a couple blocks from the main campus
• Patients served include adults and geriatrics

Clinical Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience from a large Level I or Level II facility
• Proficiency required: IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care, arterial line management, blood product administration, trach management, and non-invasive airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management, and chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
• Must be skilled in cardiac monitoring, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Must work without CNA support
• EPIC charting experience required

Certifications and Preferences

• Required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Trauma Level I experience preferred

Support Services

You will have access to physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation support.
