PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

RN - PCU

Job Details:

• 13-week contract working three 12-hour night shifts per week from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Must be comfortable floating between all PCU and medical/surgical units
• Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, so traveler may float 2-3 times per shift
• Night shift float may occur at 11:00 PM
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• Must work at least 1 holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
• PCU average patient ratio of 5:1; medical/surgical average ratio of 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
• Ratios can be 1:6 with PCU patients and may work without CNA support
• EPIC charting experience required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS and BLS
• Preferred certifications: NIHSS, TNCC/Trauma
• Must be experienced in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
• Must be skilled in central line care, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
• Must be proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, titrating cardiac drips, and responding to emergencies via Rapid Response/Code teams
• Must be capable of managing PCA and heparin protocols, administering IV insulin, and handling endocrine/metabolic conditions
• Background in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC) required, with cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings preferred
• Patients served include adults and geriatric populations
• Interdisciplinary support available including physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation
