About this role

You will work as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, serving stroke, neurology, and general medicine overflow patients. This is a 91-day travel assignment starting July 27, 2026.

Schedule & Hours

  • Work 3 twelve-hour night shifts per week (6:45 PM to 7:15 AM); 4x12 shifts available upon request
  • Variable weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
  • Must work at least 1 holiday per 13-week contract
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
  • Self-scheduling via Kronos

Clinical Environment

  • Patient ratios typically 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
  • Unit census of 25 patients across 25 beds and rooms
  • Adult and geriatric patient populations
  • Occasional float to another PCU or medical-surgical unit

Responsibilities

  • Provide cardiac monitoring, emergency response, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central and peripheral line care
  • Administer medications including cardiac drips without titration (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine and dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, Ketamine)
  • Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
  • Manage chest tubes, trach care, PICC lines, and multi-lumen catheters
  • Apply isolation precautions and PPE as required
  • Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting coverage support

Requirements

  • Active Virginia State or Compact RN license
  • Minimum 1 year nursing experience; travel experience preferred
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Skills: telemetry, PCU/stepdown, dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response and code team coordination, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, cardiac drip management, non-invasive airway management

Compensation

Weekly pay: $2,394

Interdisciplinary support is available including physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and pharmacy.
