PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• Work 3x12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM; 4x12-hour shifts available upon request
• Variable weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• Must work at least 1 holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
• Self-scheduling with Kronos scheduling system
• Patient ratios: typically 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Unit serves stroke, neurology, and general medicine overflow patients in a PCU/stepdown setting
• Daily census of 25 patients; unit has 25 beds and 25 rooms
• Patients include adults and geriatrics
• EPIC charting experience required
• Occasional float to another PCU or medical-surgical level of care unit required
• Provide cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central and peripheral line care
• Administer medications including cardiac drips without titration
• Manage IV drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine and dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, Ketamine
• Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management including CPAP and BiPAP
• Manage potential procedures including chest tubes, trach care, PICC lines, and multi-lumen catheters
• Apply isolation precautions and PPE as required
• Remote telemetry monitoring with monitors remaining on unit; tele sitting implemented for additional Patient Care Tech coverage
• Interdisciplinary support available including physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and pharmacy
• Minimum 1 year of experience required; travel experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted; travel experience preferred
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required
• Required skills: telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, use of rapid response and code teams, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, cardiac drip management without titration, nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management, and isolation precautions and PPE
