About this role

You'll work as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. This is a night shift position offering 4x12-hour blocks. You'll earn $2,764.80 per week on a 91-day contract starting September 14, 2026.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Provide care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with surgical and trauma-related diagnoses
  • Manage a patient ratio of 3:1 across all shifts and weekends
  • Float within your scope of practice as needed per unit policy
  • Perform skilled nursing procedures including central line care, arterial line management, PICC line care, tracheostomy management, and chest tube care
  • Administer blood products, manage epidural analgesia and PCA pumps, and monitor procedural sedation
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms, manage vasoactive and cardiac drips, and respond to rapid response and code team calls
  • Provide wound care and wound vac management, manage feeding tubes and continuous bladder irrigation
  • Chart using the Epic system

Scheduling:

  • Night shift work with variable scheduling
  • 36 or 48 hours per week available
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
  • Maximum 40 hours of pre-approved time off per 13-week contract

Requirements:

  • Valid Virginia nursing license (pending licenses accepted)
  • 1 year of nursing experience
  • ACLS and BLS certifications
  • Epic charting system experience
  • Trauma Level I and II experience preferred
  • BSN preferred

Unit Environment:

You'll work in a 12-bed PCU with a daily census of 10. Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, and unit secretaries.
