ICU Registered Nurse Job in Abilene, TX

Hendrick Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for its 24-bed ICU in Abilene, Texas. This is a 91-day travel assignment running nights on a 3x12 schedule, with a weekly rate of $2,099.52.

Role Overview

You will care for adult and geriatric patients in a mixed ICU handling medical, surgical, trauma, and open heart cases. Patient ratios are 2:1 across all shifts and weekends. The unit maintains a daily census of 12–24 patients and serves as a regional referral center.

Required Experience & Credentials

• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience
• Current ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications
• Travel experience preferred
• Altera charting experience preferred (not required)

Key Clinical Responsibilities

You will perform advanced bedside procedures including CRRT, IABP, and Impella management. Your clinical skill set must include:

• Arterial and central line management
• Mechanical ventilation and weaning protocols
• Hemodynamic monitoring and FloTrac/Vigileo systems
• Continuous IV sedation, paralytics, and vasoactive drug titration
• BiPAP/CPAP and airway management
• ICP monitoring and EVD care
• Post-craniotomy and neurosurgery recovery
• Acute stroke and CVA management
• Traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury care
• PICC line placement and maintenance
• Blood product administration and transfusion protocols
• ABG interpretation and dysrhythmia recognition
• Multisystem organ dysfunction and sepsis management
• IV insulin protocols and procedural sedation

Assignment Details

Weekend coverage is required. You may be asked to float to other campus locations—flexibility is essential. You must reside 150 miles or more from the facility. Comprehensive interdisciplinary support is available, including respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and phlebotomy.
