NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care

RN - NICU

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour day shifts starting at 6:45 AM
• Every other weekend requirement
• Rotate holidays with core staff; expected to work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's)
• First to float; may float to other Sacramento facilities with rare possibility of mid-shift float to another facility
• Overtime and extra shifts are available
• Self-scheduling is used with schedules released 4 weeks out; schedules finalized by manager
• Travelers can access schedules remotely to mark availability for extra shifts and make trades with other staff
• Block scheduling is generally not available
• Level 3 NICU unit with 26-30 beds; will only care for babies
• Pediatrics experience preferred
• Common diagnoses include respiratory failure and preterm patients; no cardiac surgery or defect repair
• Charge nurse is on unit and generally does not take patients but will provide break relief
• Nurse aides available as census and staffing dictates
• Bedside reporting required
• 1-2 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
• Hospital is designated "baby friendly" with excellent breastfeeding support
• Charting system: Cerner
• Ventilators used on unit
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house; RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
• No IV Team on unit
• Scrub color: Navy; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• 2 supervisory references required at time of submittal (charge accepted); 1 within 12 months and 1 within 3 years
• Copy of driver's license required at time of submittal to validate legal name
