Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg Orthopedic

Job Details:

• 12-hour night shifts, with shift times of 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM or 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 on a 55-bed unit
• Care for patients with diagnoses including joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• Required to titrate drips including Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine; PCA pumps also in use
• Telemetry awareness required; tele techs will interpret strips
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
• Nurse aides and patient care techs available on unit at a 1:10-20 ratio
• Float to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients as needed
• Typically every other weekend required, with additional coverage possible based on department demand; schedules posted 6 weeks in advance
• 2-3 holidays required from Thanksgiving to New Year's
• 2 days of unit/department-specific orientation provided
• Pass/Fail open book exam during orientation requiring a minimum score of 90% to pass
• Mechanical lifts available in every other room
• Strong focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness
• Scrub color: Navy Blue for RNs
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Charting system: EPIC
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA); ACLS preferred
• BSN not required
• Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from facility
