Med Surg RN Job in Des Moines, IA

UnityPoint – Iowa Lutheran Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for Med Surg on the night shift. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning November 23, 2026, paying $3,386.88 weekly.

Role Overview

You will work 4x12 night shifts with a variable weekend schedule (every other or every third weekend, depending on staffing and census). There are no on-call responsibilities. You will float across all campuses as required and care for patients on a 30-bed unit with a typical patient ratio of 1:4–5. Patient populations include those recovering from hip and knee replacements, mastectomies, and abdominal surgeries.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide direct postoperative and postprocedure nursing care
• Manage drips including PCA (patient-controlled analgesia) and Heparin
• Monitor and assess surgical patients throughout your shifts
• Coordinate care across multiple units as needed

Requirements

• Active Iowa nursing license or compact/multistate license
• BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• 24 months of Medical Surgical experience in a hospital or medical center setting
• Postoperative surgical experience highly preferred
• PCA and Heparin experience required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Skills checklist specific to Medical Surgical or Med Surg/Telemetry required
• Valid driver's license required
• Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred

You will be required to work 1–2 of the 3 upcoming winter holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year.
