About this role

Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Med Surg unit with a focus on orthopedic and neuro spine patients. You will work 12-hour night shifts on a 4x12 schedule with block scheduling options (Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday/Monday). Every other weekend is required, and if you call out on a weekend, that shift must be made up on a weekend.

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with mandatory orthopedic work experience
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • First-time travelers accepted

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage a patient ratio of 5–6:1, with flexibility up to 7:1 only in extreme cases
  • Float to other med-surg units within the facility based on census needs
  • Administer IV starts, blood products, and manage central lines
  • Monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias
  • Manage PCA pumps, peripheral nerve block catheters, and surgical drains
  • Provide care for post-surgical orthopedic, neuro spine, and trauma patients
  • Deliver high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP, and CPAP support
  • Focus on pain management for orthopedic and spine patients using multiple pain medications

Clinical Experience Expected:

Total joint replacement, pre- and post-neurosurgery, spinal cord injury care, ortho trauma, neuro spine post-surgical patients, hip and trauma hip care, heparin protocols, and high-flow oxygen therapies. Charge nurse experience and Level I trauma experience preferred.

Support Available:

IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation.

Assignment Details:

91-day assignment starting July 27, 2026. Up to 7 days of RTO (request time off) auto-approved, excluding holidays. You must work 2 of 3 major holidays. No RTO permitted during the first week. All RTO must be pre-approved and cannot be requested after signing. Maximum 7 days RTO total; no holiday RTO approved.

Weekly pay: $2,528.06
