PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• 36 hours per week offered
• Contract length: 13 to 26 weeks available
• Every other weekend requirement
• Float requirement: required to float to like units within facility
• Patient ratio of 1:4-5 on a mixed acuity unit with PCU and MS/Tele patients; in extreme situations ratio may go to 1:6
• Goal of 4 weekend shifts per 6 weeks, though staffing needs may require more
• Block scheduling can be accommodated when unit needs are met
• 24 hours of orientation provided
• Scrubs not provided; must wear white or navy blue scrubs
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Previous travel experience required
• Local candidates accepted
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS
• Preferred certification: NIHSS
• Required skills: IV start, ventilator management, telemetry, CPAP/BiPAP, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Additional skills: blood product administration, central line care and management, chest tube management, heparin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drip management, isolation precautions and PPE, non-invasive airway management, peripheral line care and management
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, chest tubes, CPAP, BiPAP, and telemetry monitoring
• Special equipment includes chest tubes, vents, trachs, BiPAP/CPAP, and drips including Dopamine, Cardizem, and Heparin
• Unit systems: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit secretary
• On-unit resources include an admission/discharge nurse, assistant nurse manager, vascular access team, RRT, code team, and behavioral health team
