ICU RN Job in Sacramento, CA

Methodist Hospital of Sacramento is seeking an experienced RN for a 12-bed Intensive Care Unit. You'll work 3x12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM–7:30 AM with bedside report) on an every-other-weekend schedule, with a minimum of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period.

Unit Overview

This ICU manages acutely ill patients with diagnoses including non-STEMIs, CVA, multi-organ failure, sepsis, and respiratory failure, plus post-operative patients with complications. You'll typically carry 1–2 patients per shift; 1:1 assignments are rare. Comfort care patients remain on the unit. TEEs and bronchoscopies are common bedside procedures.

Clinical Requirements

• Ventilator experience required
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips and work confidently with telemetry
• ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications required
• BSN not required

Staffing & Support

A charge nurse is available on unit and provides break relief; no IV team or nurse aides are assigned to the unit. Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist support are available 24/7. Multidisciplinary rounds occur on day shifts. You'll receive 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor.

Schedule & Flexibility

You are first to float; floating to other Sacramento facilities may occur, though mid-shift floats to another facility are rare. Self-scheduling is available, with the manager finalizing schedules posted 4 weeks in advance. Overtime and extra shifts are available, and you can manage availability remotely, make yourself available for additional shifts, and trade with other staff. Block scheduling is generally not available.

Holiday & Cancellation Policy

Holidays rotate with core staff; you must work 2 of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's). Holiday time off is considered but not guaranteed. The hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment or up to 3 shifts for shorter assignments.

Logistics

Charting is done in Cerner. Scrubs must be navy; undershirts may be navy, white, or black; jackets are optional but must be navy if worn. Assignment duration is 91 days, beginning November 10, 2026. Weekly pay is $2,267.
