ICU Registered Nurse Job in Carmichael, CA

You'll work as a Registered Nurse in the Neuro ICU at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, California. This is a 98-week travel position paying $2,267 weekly.

Schedule and Staffing

• 3x12-hour night shifts (6:45 AM start with bedside report)
• Every other weekend requirement
• Rotate holidays with core staff; expect to work 2 of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
• Self-scheduling available with manager balancing; schedules published 4 weeks in advance
• Overtime and extra shifts available

Patient Care and Unit Support

• Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:2
• Nurse aides available as safety attendants
• Charge nurse on unit who generally does not take patients but provides break relief
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7
• IV team not available on unit
• First to float to sister facilities; mid-shift float to another facility is rare but possible

Clinical Requirements and Skills

• Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience preferred
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Experience with ventilators required
• Common patient diagnoses include CVA, intracranial bleeding, neuro surgeries, craniotomies, neuro interventional radiology, and ventriculostomies
• Line insertions performed regularly

Certifications and Licensing

• Valid California nursing license required
• ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications required
• BSN not required

Orientation and Systems

• 1 to 2 days of floor-specific orientation with preceptor
• Charting system: Cerner EMR
• Scrub color: Navy required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy
