PCU Registered Nurse Job in Waterloo, IA

UnityPoint – Allen Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a temporary assignment in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You will work the night shift on a 4x12 schedule with an every-other-weekend requirement. This is a 91-day assignment beginning November 16, 2026, with weekly pay of $2,712.

Role Overview

Your primary assignment is Med Surg PCU with telemetry responsibilities, but you will float across multiple units including Med Surg, Behavioral Health, ED, ICU, and post-procedural areas based on census and staffing needs. There is no dedicated home unit. You will manage a patient ratio of 1:6 and work with no on-call responsibilities. You are required to work 1–2 of the 3 upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed.

Clinical Requirements

• Proficiency reading EKG/ECG, including telemetry rhythm strips and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Competency with heparin, insulin, lasix, amiodarone, diltiazem, and digoxin drips
• Must complete Basic Dysrhythmia Assessment during onboarding with a passing score of 80%
• Experience with EPIC EMR

Experience & Licensure

• 24 months of experience in Progressive Care, Stepdown, Med Surg, Tele, or Med Surg/Telemetry required
• First-time travelers accepted with at least 2 years of nursing experience (hospital/medical center experience prioritized)
• Active Iowa nursing license or compact/multistate license required
• Valid driver's license required

Certifications

• BLS (AHA/ARC) – required
• ACLS (AHA/ARC) – required
• NIH Stroke Scale certificate – preferred (obtainable during onboarding)
• De-Escalation Certificate (SAMA, MAB, MOAB, or CPI) – preferred (obtainable during onboarding)

A professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months is preferred.
