Med Surg RN Job in Asheville, NC

You'll work as an RN on the K8 General Surgery unit at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. This 44-bed unit on the 8th floor of K-tower focuses on post-surgical care, including general surgery, urology, and bowel procedures.

Schedule & Pay

• 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, nights (6:45 PM–7:15 AM)
• 91-day assignment starting September 14, 2026
• $2,102.40 per week

Your Role

You'll manage 6–7 patients per shift, depending on census and shift type. Night shift typically includes 1 charge nurse, 10 RNs, 4 CNAs, and 1 unit secretary. You'll care for patients recovering from cholecystectomies, appendectomies, bowel resections, urology surgeries, nephrectomies, hysterectomies, mastectomies, thyroidectomies, and hernia repairs.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor patients on telemetry equipment
• Administer heparin drips and IV antibiotics
• Manage TPN, PCA pumps, and IV infusions using Baxter pumps
• Insert and maintain NG tubes, PEG tubes, Dobhoffs, and urinary catheters
• Care for ostomies (colostomies and urostomies) and various surgical drains
• Operate wound vacs and manage tube feeds
• Provide direct patient care for urology and bowel patient populations
• Communicate effectively with charge nurses, unit secretaries, providers, and CNA team

Requirements

• Current BLS and telemetry certifications
• Experience with urology and bowel patient populations
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR system
• Ability to float to other med-surg areas as needed

Additional Details

You'll work 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule. Dress code is navy blue pants with navy blue or white scrub top and jacket; white undershirt is optional. Sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies, and coats are not permitted.
