Med Surg RN Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a 13-week Med Surg contract starting October 19, 2026. This is a 4x12 night shift position with 48 guaranteed hours per week and overtime available after 48 hours worked.

Role Overview

You will provide care in a 40-bed Post Surgical Care Unit serving pre- and post-surgical adults and geriatric patients. The unit operates at 90–95% occupancy during the week with an average of 10–15 admissions daily and 2–3 day average length of stay. You will work nights (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5 to 1:7, requiring strong multitasking and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule & Compensation

Night shifts on a 4x12 schedule with every other weekend and holiday rotation required. Float duties to all inpatient units apply. You have access to 36 hours of low census unbillable time that can be taken in hour increments as needed. Weekly pay is $2,841.

Requirements

• Current Wisconsin RN license
• BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• Minimum 2+ years Med Surg experience with recent hospital experience
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Epic EMR charting experience required
• Associate Degree or Certificate minimum; Bachelor's Degree preferred

Clinical Details

You will use Epic EMR for charting, Rovers for medication scanning, and Alaris pumps. Any color scrubs are permitted. Your role involves assessing patient acuity, coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team, and managing the demands of a high-census surgical unit.
