About this role

Waterbury Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Intensive Care Unit. You'll work 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM on a 3x12 schedule, with every other weekend coverage required. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning September 7, 2026, with weekly compensation of $2,191.

Role Overview

You will provide direct patient care in a community hospital ICU setting, managing adult patients with typical ratios of 1:2, flexing to 1:3 as needed. You may float to Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units within your scope of practice. Step-down assignments may also be included at 1:3 ratios. The unit uses Cerner for documentation and Accudose for medications.

Required Experience & Certifications

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications
  • Unit-specific EKG testing required
  • Preferred: Cerner documentation system experience

Essential Skills

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Pulmonary artery line and Swan Ganz monitoring
  • Central line care and management
  • Starting and maintaining IVs
  • Care and management of ventilated patients
  • Ventilator management and troubleshooting
  • Titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Infection prevention, isolation precautions, and proper PPE use

Workplace Details

The unit operates using SBAR communication standards and requires blue scrubs. You'll work in a community hospital environment with a collaborative team approach to patient care. Your clinical judgment and ability to manage complex critical care patients will be valued in this role.
